How many Envirotesters will I need?

You need only one Envirotester per forced air system.

Exceptions:

1. If you are not able to use forced air and you have more than one specific location, you may want to perform a test at each location using a separate Envirotester at each location.

2. If you find that you have an air quality issue with the presence of mold, yeast and/or bacteria in your first test, you may want to retest after you have taken corrective action. A second Envirotester may be purchased for a retest. Keep the second unit in a cool place for up to 1 year.

Does one unit detect yeast, mold and bacteria, or do you need one unit per spore?

If all three types of spores are present in your forced air system, a single unit and test will show all three types.

Is it possible that mold could be localized to one room or section of the forced air system?

If mold is present in your forced air system, it will be detected by the Envirotester. However, if you notice that mold odor is stronger in one room than in another, you may want to perform two tests (one in each room) to determine if there is a more severe localized mold problem

How do I use the Envirotester?

The best method is to hold the tester in front of an air duct that has forced air emerging for sixty seconds. Then store the unit in a warm place (70 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit) for 24 to 72 hours. Follow the instructions that come with the unit to compare the results to the chart and determine if you have the presence of mold, yeast or bacteria and to what degree.

Does Envirotester detect mold in an inaccessiable area, e.g. behind a wall.

Envirotester is best used to detect airborne mold, yeast and bacteria in your forced air system.

Although it is NOT strongly recommended, it may be used to detect mold in inaccessible areas, such as behind walls. The risk with this is contaminating the unit with particles from paneling, wall board, insulation and other material while putting it in place. We have tested this procedure and it does detect mold.
